check out the video above to see what I did!
what you need:
- a shirt (use a white one to skip the bleaching!)
- tye die: again I used the tie dye kit by Jacquard which included 3 bottles of dye, one extra bottle to mix colours!, rubber bands, gloves, soda ash and a really good how-to DVD (link will be below)
- a bucket
- some plastic bags or whatever you want to use to protect your working area
what you do:
- fill some of your bleach into your bucket and put your fabric in there
- let it soak for a couple of minutes, take it out and wait for it to fade
- if you don't want to waste too much bleach, you can fill it into a spray bottle and spray your fabric with it, but this takes way longer and you have to go over it a couple of times
- your fabric doesn't need to be perfectly white 'cause we're going to cover it anyway!
- wash the shirt
- solve your soda ash in the required amount of water (you can save the dissolution for about two weeks)
- put your fabric into the dissolution and let it soak for about 20 minutes (this step helps to keep the colours from fading or bleeding)
- take it out, rinse it and let it dry about 80-90%. I would not recommend starting to dye when your fabric is still wet, wait until it's still a little damp!
- now you can start to dye!
- start with whatever colour you like and create the rainbow
- go back and forth and smear the colours with the top of the bottle; this way they all blend together really well
- let your work sit for about 12-24 hours; the longer, the better!
- then rinse your shirt under some cold water until the water runs clear
- now you should be able to wash it in the machine but to be sure I usually wash my dyed fabric by hand one more time

Bleach: I got a bottle of bleach at the drugstore for about 1,50€
