little tips and tricks for your hair

Little Tips & Tricks For Healthy Hair

I get asked a lot about how I keep my hair healthy and shiny. Over the years I collected some little tricks on how to prevent breakage and split-ends aside from what you usually hear.
Here we go:

  1. First of all, I don't wash my hair every day. I bet you already heard of that but when I ask around below my friends, there are a lot who do wash their hair everyday. In case you want to know more about why you should wait at least a day to wash your hair again and some tips on how to adjust your hair to that, leave me a comment below.
  2. When you wash your hair, try to use warm water, not cold nor hot. Cold water is harder on your hair because it contains more calcium carbonate and hot water harms your hair because of the heat (obviously) and the effect is intensified because your hair is more vulnerable when it's wet. Which leads us to the next point:
  3. Don't tousle or scrub your hair with the towel to dry it. Try wrapping the towel around your hair and pull it downwards, pressing it onto your hair. Otherwise your will cause breakage and create more knots in your hair.
  4. When detangling your hair, use a wide-tooth comb instead of a hairbrush, especially when your hair is still wet (I actually use a wide-tooth comb all the time). It's more gentle and you won't rip out as much hair. And you should work your way from the bottom towards your head, this way you don't have to force your way all the way down through your hair. In case your hair tangles easily, maybe use some kind of product which helps with the knots before you comb your hair.
  5. In case you blow-dry your hair, use the lowest heat-setting possible. Your hair doesn't like the heat!
  6. IF you use heat on your hair, you should use a heat-protectant. Some people say you should use one whenever your hair gets in contact with heat, so even when you just go out in the sun. I personally don't feel like I need that because my hair is quite robust, but if you have fine and sensitive hair, you should definitely do so!
  7. Use hair-bands without this little metal thingy. The edges rub against your hair all the time and create split ends and breakage!

Products I regularly use:

As I already told you, my skin is really really sensitive, which includes the skin on my head too. This makes it really hard for me to find a good shampoo that doesn't stress my scalp and doesn't create dandruff.
The last few years I've been using shampoos by Guhl. They are concentrated so you have to mix them with water before you use them. I alternate between different kinds like one for deep-repair, one for extra long hair, one against dandruff and so on and this works pretty well for me. As deep-conditioner I loved to use one by Swiss O Par that did an AMAZING job but it seems like it's not getting produced anymore :(  So I'm still looking for a good deep-conditioner. Maybe you can recommend one?
I'm also looking for a cleansing shampoo. You should use one now and then to strip your hair from all the product you put into it, but I couldn't find one that I liked. Any suggestions?

I hope this was helpful and please leave me a comment in case you have recommandations or want to know more :)

I did not get paid to promote any products.
