cleaning your make-up brushes

DID YOU KNOW that you should clean your make-up brushes?
I've got the impression that a lot of girls don't know that this is really necessary or are just too lazy to do it.
You should clean your brushes at least once a week, of course it depends on how much you use them, but at least once a week! Otherwise bacteria and all that kind of stuff will develop and grow between the bristles and everytime you use your brushes you will apply these bacteria on your skin too.
This can cause acne, spots and so on or even eye infections. And we don't want that, do we? :D

So, here's how you do it...

how to:
  • take your brushes and maybe wipe off the excess product that's left on them with a paper towel
  • the next step is completely optional (I usually don't do it): for those of you who are afraid that the cleaning might break or damage the bristles: you can use extra virgin olive oil first! Just put some of it on a paper towel and swirl your brushes in it, this will nourish and soften the bristles and break up the make-up, which makes the next step easier!
  • wet the brush and use some shampoo, just like when you're washing your hair!
  • make sure you really get in between the bristles, especially when you're cleaning a bigger und fluffy brush!
  • if you want to be really proper, you can use special products for cleaning your brushes, there are some from MAC for example but they usually contain alcohol and not everyone likes that
  • wash them out and wipe them on a towel to get rid of excess water and maybe bring them back into shape

As you can see, it's really easy and doesn't take much time to do. I do this once a week during my bedtime routine and the next day, my brushes look like new :)
Shampoo works just fine for this and me as a private person. If you use your brushes on other people too, you should really make sure that your brushes are clean. I bet you don't want to be responsible for any infections!

I hope this was helpful!
